Failing to see the allure of Emacs
|
| |
Hello, I started learning emacs 48 hours ago. The motivation for this was to be able to do programming and general computing tasks through just emacs. I've seen the wizards who are just doing all kinds of crazy stuff--quickly. I am not sure what the benefit is now, though, after going through the tutorial.... więcej »

can't see file in folder
|
| |
Hi, I created and saved a plain text file in Emacs in the default directory, C:\Program Files\emacs-23.1\bin (I'm using Windows 7). I can open the file no problem from within Emacs, but the strange thing is that I can't see the file from Windows Explorer. I've set the computer to show all hidden folders, so that's not the problem (not... więcej »

My Ispell has stopped working
|
| |
I use Emacs 22.3.1 under Windows XP. Ispell suddenly stopped working, while in use. When called, it says it is searching, but immediately hangs. Sometimes the cursor goes to the end of the current line. Otherwise, there is no visible activity. As usual, info gives me the feeling of coming in in the middle of a... więcej »

opening two files side-by-side by default
|
| |
Hello, sorry for a naive question: how to make emacs open two files, emacs -nw file1.txt file2.txt such that the two files are positioned side-by-side right away, instead of (default setting) one above the other? I believe I should put something involving (split-window-horizontally) in my .emacs files, but don't know how to do it exactly.... więcej »

Comment lines and matching parentheses
|
| |
What determines whether or not parentheses that are part of comments are included when performing paren matching?.. For instance, in C mode, both // ( // ) and foo //( bar //) are reported as mismatched parentheses. Similar behavior is observed in lisp mode. Is there a way to make emacs ignore all parentheses that are parts of... więcej »

where to get a tarball for the CVS version?
|
| |
This is probably a FAQ, but I didn't find a ready answer anywhere. Is there some place where I can get a tarball corresponding to the current CVS version of emacs? I believe there are .debs available, but since I'm running Fedora 8, I can't use those straightaway. Thanks for any suggestions, Mandar.... więcej »

Rmail, Babyl, mbox, emacs 23
|
| |
My ISP just upgraded emacs to 23.1.1. I was alarmed when it couldn't parse my 22-level Babyl rmail file, but I soon learned that running M-x unrmail would fix that. Now, though, I face the problem of what happens when I run M-x rmail-input against an email archive (also Babyl) created under an earlier version of emacs. 23.1.1's Rmail doesn't parse the archive any... więcej »

ledger, add-entry
|
| |
Maybe someone can answer this question here; since I have no google account the ledger group is inaccessible for me. When I add an entry to my ledger file (ledger-add-entry) a new entry will be created according to an older one with the same payee. As far as good but how can I suppress the price to be filled in either. As... więcej »
