How about cracked websites? Ever visited one? Should your browser obey
those too? Should your browser happily download and execute whatever
that site is offering because "it is not your problem or browser
problem"? I know that javascript can't do that, but it could, should we
allow it to do it. We don't for a reason.

5 MB is not large. Mine is 18 MB (because history is also kept in
that same sqlite file and I don't clear my history as I like the
convenience of having it searched when I type something in the address

Ron, you're being over-reactive! First of all, JavaScript can't do any
of those oranges you mention (apples/oranges <g>).
My Firefox and Opera offered to not run scripts at that page, and I
accepted that choice.

Hummm. So, if the coding says format the user's hard drive, you think
that is ok? If it says delete Firefox profiles. Is that all right? If

While all you say is true, it is inadequate. If IE and Google Chrome
can see this loop, and give the user an opportunity to interrupt it
without using the OS to terminate the application, they Firefox can do
so as well. Just saying that it is a coding error is not enough in this
case. A bad coding error that can cause the user to be unable to regain

Find the userContent.css file in your profile. Should be in the 'chrome'
directory. If there isn't a file with this name, make a copy from
userContent-example.css and change the filename.
Add the following CSS:
a:visited {
background-color: transparent;
color: #800080 !important; /* purple */
This will apply to all sites.

up a popup that asks me whether or not to grant my geolocation
position. I can modify this popup with overlay in XUL? if i can, what

How can I override their page link color styles? The Firefox configuration "Allow pages to change their own fonts...."

So if I tell browser via javascript that it should freeze then browser
should freeze? Is that really your opinion what should happen?
Javascript capabilities of what it can do to your browser has limits for
a reason, and what that site does falls into that category about what
javascript should not be able to do. By accident or not by accident.

JavaScript is JavaScript. The browsers are doing exactly what the page
author told them to do. I don't understand why you think that this is a
bad idea...
Perhaps you have different options set in those other browsers...
But you go ahead and continue to blame the hammer for the bent nail, if
that makes you happy.

I just, now, installed the "Open Book" extension into Firefox 3.6 ....
sswweeeet!!! That is how that dialog should work right outa the box! I
appreciate all the work that these Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey
developers do, but all of the things that used to be 'standard
equipment', that now, require an extension is a bit dis-appointing. by

If Opera behaves in similar fashion then also Opera javascript is broken.
Websites should not be able to freeze/infinite loop/crash the web
browser. Period.
Firefox 3.5.8 doesn't have any problems with that page, neither does IE.
